Message from the Principal

Dear Friends!

We are nearing a decade of our establishment and it is time to evaluate our performance of the past and plan for the future. Looking back at the last nine years, we see the significant development of CBEAS . I remember the time, when our first batch of students was admitted in 2005. I remember their inquisitive eyes, asking many questions about their future. What will happen to us? How shall they progress in the times to come? Can we go for further studies abroad? Shall we find jobs in Nepal? Although the college was established after deliberate research on these topics, we were not so sure about the answers to these questions. Today almost 40% of our graduates are studying abroad, enrolled either in PhD or Masters Courses. Many have already completed their course and are working abroad. Now I find my students in the USA, UK, Canada, Ireland, Germany, Belgium, Finland, Switzerland, Netherlands, Australia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, China and India. Their performance in higher studies is excellent and many of them have been awarded for many achievements during their course of studies. Most of these students have received Research and Teaching Assistantships as well as scholarships for their studies including prestigious Erasmus Mundus and Singa scholarships.

Those, who chose to stay behind and serve the country, are also doing quite well. Some have established their own company, while others are working in government and private organizations. Their performance is also excellent as per some feedback received by us.

These things make us happy and proud. Being a pioneer in any field is difficult. We had a tough time introducing and explaining about Biomedical Engineering to the concerned people in the beginning. But now, thanks to our meritorious students and faculty members, the nation has understood the importance of Biomedical Engineers. The government, in its recently introduced directives, has made it mandatory for all hospitals with more than 100 beds to have at least one Biomedical Engineer.

Our focus is not only directed towards academic studies. We are performing well in the field of Research and Development too.  Various projects, undertaken by our students have yielded good results and some works have been published in international journals as well. We also managed to receive a grant from the University Grants Commission and completed a research project.

During this period, the college organized two major international conferences in Kathmandu in association with Society for Biomaterials and Artificial Organs India and Society for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine India. The first Conference was inaugurated by the President of Nepal His Excellency Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, wheras the second one was inaugurated by the Vice President of Nepal His Excellency Mr. Parmanand Jha. Both these conferences were grand success making serious impact in the development of Biomedical Sector in the country. The students benefitted the most by having the most prominent personalities (world renowned scientists, professors, clinicians and academicians) of this field with them at their doorstep and availing an opportunity to interact with them. Our students also had several chances to attend such conferences in India. These exposures helped them to clear their minds and see the broad spectrum of Biomedical Engineering in the world.

Despite serious problems and hindrances, we are maintaining our academic calendar. Our students have been graduating after four years of their studies. The academic results so far are excellent.

Being the only institution in the field of Biomedical Engineering, we feel that it is our responsibility to uplift this area of Engineering in the country and we are continuously acting accordingly.

Our leading partners in our mission like Nepal Orthopedic Hospital, National Kidney Centre, Annapurna Neuro Hospital, Star Hospital etc. have also helped us in many ways towards our development.

In the end, I would like to thank all our well-wishers, faculty members and students for their overwhelming support throughout this journey. I would also like to welcome all prospective students to this challenging field of Biomedical Engineering.
